
The Creating
School Newsletters short course provides instructions and resource
information that you can use for creating school newsletters.
It presents information about planning newsletters, writing for
newletters, designing newsletter layouts, using graphics in newsletters,
and newsletter production for schools. The short course consists
of six units and a search/index section.

1- Introduction
The
Introduction presents an overview of the Creating School Newsletters
short course. An introduction to newsletters is provided, along
with information about purposes for newsletters and newsletter
terminology.
- Unit
2 - Planning Newsletters
This unit examines the process of planning newsletters. It specifically
takes a look at newsletter names, types of newsletter content,
and story themes for newsletters. This unit also provides an
introduction to typography, the arrangement and selection of
type. It explores typography basics, kinds of typefaces, personalities
of type, principles of typography, and typography tips and techniques.

3 - Writing for Newsletters
Writing for newsletters focuses on various aspects of writing
for newsletters.. General information and guidelines are presented
for writing for newsletters, evaluating readability, and formatting
body copy.

4 - Designing Newsletter Layouts
This
unit presents information about designing newsletter layouts.
General information and guidelines are given for designing newsletters,
creating effective layouts, newsletter nameplates, reader cues,
and visual images. A list of design problems to avoid is also
given.
- Unit
5 - Using Graphics in Newsletters
This unit takes takes a look at using graphics in newsletters.
It examines sources for newsletters, types of graphics files,
working with photos, using images from scanners, graphic accents,
logos, and infographics.
- Unit
6 - Newsletter Production
This unit takes a look at what is involved in the production
of newsletters. It includes information about proofreading guidelines
and printing, including paper and writing specifications. The
last section provides information about ways newsletters can
be distributed easily and inexpensively thorough electronic
means.
- Search/Index
The Search/Index feature provides users with a search feature,
an index, and a glossary of terms used in the short course.
